Registration Checklist

To register a vehicle in Connecticut, you'll need to gather several documents, including a completed application, proof of insurance, proof of ownership (title or bill of sale), and proof of identity. You'll also need to have a vehicle inspection and/or emissions test completed if required for your vehicle.

Here's a more detailed checklist:
1. Application for Registration and Title (Form H-13B)
Download and fill out the form from the CT DMV website.
Print using black or blue pen.
Fill in all required information, including personal and vehicle details.
Sign and date the application.

2. Proof of Ownership
Title: If you are the first owner of a vehicle, you'll need the original title.
Bill of Sale (Form H-31): If you purchased the vehicle from a private seller, you'll need a bill of sale. You can download the form from the CT DMV website.

3. Proof of Insurance
You'll need your Connecticut insurance card.

4. Identification
A valid Connecticut driver's license, drive-only license, or non-driver ID card.
Out-of-state license or ID card with a photo.
Other acceptable forms of ID may include a U.S. passport, military ID, or Tribal ID.

5. Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) (if required)
Vehicles four or more model years old require a VIR.

6. Emissions Test (if required)
Vehicles four or more model years old require an emissions test.

7. Payment for Fees
You'll need to pay the registration and title fees by Cash or Check.

8. Other
If the original title is being held by a lienholder, you may be eligible for a courtesy registration for six months.

If you are registering an out-of-state vehicle, you may need to provide documentation from the previous state.
